After six successful events, the International Conference “Disintegration and Integration in East-Central Europe”, organized since 2013 by the Faculty of European Studies of Babeș-Bolyai University Cluj-Napoca, Romania, in cooperation with prestigious academic institutions, such as the Universities of Strasbourg, Padua or Magdeburg, and high-level academic bodies actively involved in EU studies, such as The European Union Liaison Committee of Historians, is now holding a special edition entitled “The current relevance of regional cooperation”.
This year’s edition will be organized in partnership with Institut d’études politiques de Strasbourg (University of Strasbourg), Centre for Europe (University of Warsaw), and the Institute of World Economy and International Relations (University of Debrecen) and focuses on painting a comprehensive picture of regional cooperation in East-Central Europe, with comparative approaches between the different structures of European cooperation and their relevance today. The conference is structured around three major research themes and aims to analyse, through the contributions of the invited experts and researchers, the past and present regional alliances in East-Central Europe, with a focus on sub-regional cooperation initiatives in East-Central Europe (Central European Initiative, Visegrad Group, CEFTA, Baltic Council, Varna 4, Bucharest 9, Slavkov Triangle, Three Seas initiative etc.), the process of overcoming historical barriers through cross-border cooperation and last but not least, theories and models of regional development and cohesion (case study: Poland).
The debates are set to draw attention to the need for and the importance of cooperation development between the Member States of the European Union from Central and Eastern Europe, and to promote a new vision on cooperation within the European Union (that of "Europe of the Regions").
The conference languages are English and French.
